Steel Toe Tour
Up early this morning in Kansas City.  Reservation to do the "Steel Toe" tour at the Harley-Davidson factory where the Low Rider is built.
It all starts with a frame.  Each piece shaped, welded, checked, double checked, polished, treated to a seven step power coating.  Was I ever impressed!
Speaking of being pressed.  All the fenders are "pressed" in house from sheets of steel, polished smooth before painting.
Hard to believe these gas tanks started their lives as flat sheets of steel too.  When finished they are hand polished to perfection. Everyone should see the craftsmanship that goes into building a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.  After touring the factory you can proudly say..."Built in the USA with Pride!"
Leaving the factory it was a short distance to HWY 50 - "The Backbone of America".  Weather was calling for thunderstorms...managed to skirt around the edge with a big smile on my face.   The road opened up to gentle green rolling hills dotted with farms.  The only traffic a John Deere with a friendly wave from the farmer.
Kickstand down for the night in Emporia, KS.  A great day.  Question: how do you know you are in Kansas.  Answer: order a mixed green salad.

live free, ride free, Carlan
