The Art of Seeing

The photographer's goal is to see and share the world in the strongest possible way.  Truthful, revealing, and penetrating.  The art of photography is the art of seeing.  The strength and integrity of a photograph lies in the seeing.  The rules of photographic composition are often invalid and over power what lies between the spirit of the photographer and the subject.

Every photographer has their own way of seeing, expressing, feeling.  The challenge is to allow the seeing be shared in the photograph rather than standing aloof from it.  Adequate technique is necessary.  Confidence is required.  Developing confidence in the seeing is the challenge.

This coming March 4 - 9 I will be teaching Expressive Black and White Landscapes and Fine Art Digital Print Making at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.  We will be working in the landscape around Santa Fe understanding the art of seeing.  Returning to the digital lab we will craft our expression of the landscape into the fine art black and white print.  Consider joining me.  It will be a week spent in exploring and understanding the challenge of the art of seeing.
